Richard Joseph Wielinski, age 72, of Charles City, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Carl Ries and Father Alan Wielinski will concelebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City at a later date.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home 5 to 8 p.m. Monday where there will be a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Richard was born on May 30, 1941 in Pike Creek Township, Morrison County, Minnesota the son of Simon & Catherine (Smude) Wielinski. He grew up on the family farm in Pike Creek Township and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School and Little Falls High School and continued on to receive a Bachelors degree from St. Cloud State University and a Masters in Education from the University of Northern Iowa.

Richard was married to Kay Blezek on June 18, 1966 ; They were married 47 years. Richard worked as a junior high math teacher for Charles City Schools for over 30 years. Richard and his wife, Kay, hosted foreign exchange students from Greece, Brazil and Japan. The couple later traveled to Brazil and Greece. Richard was a math teacher at NIACC as well. In retirement, he worked for several years during spring training for the San Francisco Giants as the Gate 8 ticket taker in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Richard was an avid gardener of vegetables and flowers. As a Master Gardner, he helped to plant and maintain community flower gardens. He also served as an assistant horticulture judge at Floyd County Fair. Richard rode his bicycle on several rides to raise money for MS. He was passionate about hiking the trails of the desert southwest. He was also actively involved in Elks, Kiwanis, Big 4 Teachers, ISEA, and was active in Dollars for Scholars. His joys included family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching grandsons play sports and time with his vast number of friends.

Living family members include his wife 47 years, Kay; children: Timothy (Paula) Wielinski of Prescott Arizona and Destrie Wielinski (special friend Luke Landis) of Clive; grandchildren: Brittany Childs, Jared Childs, Joseph Wielinski, Brandon Childs, Anna Wielinski and Brady Johnson; great-grandchildren: Randy Johnson and Nevaeh Johnson; siblings: Mary Louise Roberts, Leona Munsch, Albert (Shirley) Wielinski, Irene McCulloch, Lorraine LeMieur, James (Carol) Wielinski, Ann Schomer, John Wielinski, Simon Wielinski, Janet (Dan) Childs, Cathy Bolme, Michael (Clarice) Wielinski, Sharon Loscheider; along with many nieces and nephews and many treasured family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn; brother, Simon; and an infant sister. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the local Dollars for Scholars or to a charity of your choice.
