Carlisle William Beekman was born June 21, 1932, in Floyd County, the son of Carl and Jennie (Schroeder) Beekman. He graduated from Nashua High School where he played basketball, baseball, participated in drama and class plays. Carlisle was also a member of the Future Farmers of America and was awarded the Iowa Farmer Degree which is the highest degree conferred on a member by the State Organization. He also held offices in his junior and senior years and was on the staff of the Hi-Lite which was the year book. After graduation he worked at home and at Nashua Brick and Tile, delivered mail and helped area farmers.
On June 23, 1956, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Wilke at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. They farmed all their lives until his retirement in 1997. They moved to Charles City in 2005. Carlisle left the farm but the farm never left his heart. He would comment on how much he loved farming and being his own boss. Carlisle was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. During his farming years he was named Floyd County Outstanding Pork Producer and Iowa Master Corn Grower.
During his retirement he enjoyed golfing and playing cards at Nashua Country Club and the Elks. As a couple they enjoyed bowling and were for many years members of a couple’s league.
