CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Ben Krall, 94, of Charles City, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City, with the Rev. Carl Ries officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City, where military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church an hour prior to the Mass.

A funeral Mass for Ben Krall will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where there will be a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus Rosary. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church an hour prior to the Mass.
Ben A. Krall was born May 19, 1919, at Abercrombie, North Dakota, the son of Ammon and Mary (Moural) Krall. The family moved to this area in 1923. Ben graduated from Colwell School in 1937. He proudly served in the United States Army, 34th Infantry, during World War II. He was on the first ship to leave for overseas and was stationed in Ireland, England, Africa and Italy.
On April 20, 1949, he was united in marriage to Imelda Roths at New Hampton. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus having served as past Grand Knight, Elks Lodge, Heritage Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and was past president of the 34th Red Bull Division.
Ben was very proud to be a part of an Honor Flight of World War II veterans to Washington D.C. His interests included all types of sports and gardening. Ben participated in every Charles City parade since the 1950s and will be remembered for his puppets and for making any occasion special by his impromptu playing of the harmonica.
Living family members include his wife Imelda Krall of Charles City; four children, Marilee (Cathy Stauber) Krall of Las Vegas, N.M., Diane (Airavata Carroll) Krall of England, Tom (Jan) Krall of Guttenberg and Bob (Angie) Krall of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Lisa (Craig) Johnson, Jeffrey Krall and fiancée Haley Finneran and Katie Krall; and a great granddaughter, Kyla Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; three brothers, Jerry, Bill and Ed Krall; and three sisters, Emma Blomgren, Matilda Kakac and Helen Swant.
