CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Lois M. Girken, 73, of Charles City, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center, Charles City, surrounded by her loving family.

A graveside service with inurnment will be held April 5, 2014, at the Charles City Calvary Cemetery for family and close friends only. A memorial celebration will follow.

Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, 641-228-2323, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hauserfh.com .

The family will receive donations and flowers at 1606 Indiana Ave., Charles City, IA 50616. Donations in Lois’ name will be made to Paws Humane Society and other favored charities.

Lois M. Girken, 73, of Charles City, died Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City surrounded by her loving family.

A graveside service with inurnment will be held April 5, 2014 at the Charles City Calvary Cemetery for family and close friends only. A Memorial Celebration will follow.

Lois Marie (Rethamel) Girken was born July 18, 1940 in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Helen (Kubik) Rethamel. She graduated from New Hampton High School. Lois was married to Garland R. Girken on November 19, 1960 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Hampton. The couple lived in New Hampton for a short time before moving to Charles City in February, 1969.

Lois worked at the State Farm Claims Office and St. Joseph Hospital while in New Hampton, and at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Comp. Systems and as an aide within the School System while in Charles City. Lois was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and enjoyed bicycling, walking, reading and solving puzzles. Lois most enjoyed spending time with her family, children and grandchildren. Family members and friends will cherish wonderful memories of Lois' life.

Family will receive donations and flowers at 1606 Indiana Avenue, Charles City, IA 50616. Donations in Lois' name will be made to Paws Humane Society and other favored charities, and flowers will be displayed during the Memorial Celebration on the 5th of April.
