MRS. FRED POWELL
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Central United Methodist Church in Charles City, for Mrs. Fred Powell, 86, who died Wednesday at the Salsbury Baptist Nursing Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
She had been critically ill for the last three weeks.
Born on September 22, 1886, in Waterloo, she was the daughter of Johnson Perley and Emma Louise Mendenhall King. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1904 and attended Iowa State Teachers College.
On Dec. 31, 1906, she was married to William Lee Rhinesmith in Waterloo, after which the couple made their home in Charles City.
After the death of her first husband on July 27, 1919, she taught school in Floyd County and attended summer sessions at Iowa State Teachers College receiving her diploma in secondary education.
On June 11, 1938, she was married to Fred Powell in Cedar Falls. Mr. Powell died on Jun 6, 1964.
Surviving are her son, Robert King Rhinesmith, of Dayton, Ohio, one daughter Mrs. Myron Sylvester of rural Charles City, one granddaughter, three great-grandchildren and two nephews.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City until 9 a.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. at the church.
