Merlyn D. Brunner (1921-2006)

MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Merlyn Doyle Brunner, 84, of Marble Rock, died Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Liebe Care Center, Greene.

He was born April 12, 1921, in rural Union Township, Floyd County, son of Michael and Anna Heinz Brunner. On March 12, 1950, he married June Jeanette Gantenbein at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maynard. She died July 12, 1996.

Mr. Brunner graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1940. He started farming with his father at an early age, and later went out on his own. He enjoyed hunting and trapping and was a member of the Greene Sportsman Club and also served on the Marble Rock Coop Elevator Board.

Survivors include: two sons, Tim of Marble Rock and Tom (Gayle) of Charles City; three grandchildren, Richard (Janice) Torres of Troy, Ohio, Greg Brunner of Iowa City and Amy Brunner of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Merna Teeple of Greene and Marie Ackley of Chillicothe, Illinois.

Preceded in death by: two sisters, Phyllis Craig and Betty Stanbrough; and three brothers, Nicholas, Robert and Orville.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Greene, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Reid#'s Funeral Chapel, Greene, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. public Scripture service. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed in his memory to Marble Rock First Responders or the Greene Volunteer Ambulance.
