NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Betty L. Frenz, 73, of Nora Springs, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with Pastor Wendy Johannesen officiating. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of Betty’s service on Friday.

Betty L. Frenz was born on April 29, 1940, the daughter of LeRoy Holding and Beatrice Ketchum. She grew up in Mason City and attended Mason City High School.

In 1979 she was introduced to Jerry Hinkel while living in Nora Springs; they would be blessed with nearly 35 years together.

For many years Betty worked for Marshall and Swift Dry Cleaning in Mason City. More recently she could be found working on the breakfast crew at Hardees in Mason City, where she enjoyed visiting with her co-workers and the morning coffee clubs.

In her free time she enjoyed going dancing with Jerry, adding to her beloved penguin collection, tending to her flower garden, attending garage and yard sales, and traveling. Betty loved cooking and hosting family get-togethers; she was known for always preparing enough food to feed an army! She cherished her relationship and friendship with her daughter, Tanya; they shared countless times together and loved spoiling Tanya’s beloved dog, Willie, with treats.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her spouse, Jerry Hinkel, Nora Springs; children, Michele O’Bryon, Mason City, Greg (Dawn) Hinkel, Northwood, and Shari (Greg) Vick, Owatonna, Minn.; many grandchildren; sister, Vi (Delmar) Clausen; brothers, Archie Holding and Bobbie (Kathy) Grant; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Sam and Grace Ketchum; and her daughter, Tanya Frenz.
