Oliver Short

Death of Old Citizen

Oliver Short passed away last Saturday afternoon at the Cedar Valley Hospital after a lingering illness of eight years duration, at the age of 76 years.

He was born in Frankfort, Indiana in 1847, and moved to Iowa when a lad of seven years, driving with his parents across the country with teams of oxen, and settling on a farm a quarter mile north of Bassett. In 1871 he was married to Miss Lucy Lighthall of Chickasaw County, and resided on the old homestead until twenty years later, when he and his wife moved to Charles City, where they lived for the past thirty two years, with the exception of eight or nine winters spent in California, for the benefit for Mr. Short's health.

He was a man of sterling worth and will be missed by a large circle of friend who will sympathize with his wife in her bereavement. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Linderman Chapel, Rev. Porter officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
