CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Von Chambers, 86, of Charles City died Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Memorial services for Von Chambers will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Pastor Ruth Yeaton will officiate. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

The family will greet friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

Von Chambers, 86, of Charles City, died Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Von Monte Chambers was born September 4, 1927, at Charles City, the son of Richard and Leona (Tolliver) Chambers. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1947. Von was in the United States Army during World War II serving in the South Pacific.

On June 13, 1948, he was united in marriage to Gloria Rice at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. For 41 years he was employed at Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church, V.F.W., Heritage Club and Farm Bureau. Von liked to do yard work, vegetable and flower gardening, watching westerns and going to coffee at Hy-Vee with his friends. Von's greatest joy was to be with his family and share in life's experiences with them.

Living family members include his wife of 65 years, Gloria Chambers of Charles City; two daughters, Becky (Pete) Johnston of Ionia and Vicky (David) Rich of Algona; eight grandchildren, Pat Johnston, Jason Johnston, Jody Mulligan, Lisa Kettwig, Matt Chambers, Kelly Evans, Laura Hoover and Eric Rich; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Gene Chambers of Charles City; and sisters, Lois Frieberg of Charles City and Lola Hesse of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Chambers; infant brother; two brothers-in-law; and daughter-in-law.
