Daniel "Danny" D. Janssen, 63, of Nashua, passed away peacefully, Monday, October 7, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.

A graveside service for Danny Janssen will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Daniel Dean Janssen was born July 31, 1950 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, the son of Elmer and Dorothy (Rodamaker) Janssen.

Danny graduated from Nashua High School in 1969. On December 6, 1969, he married the love of his life, Maria Elizabeth Leslie at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. From this union three sons were born: Daniel Dean II (Claudia) of Nashua, Jeremy Michael (Melissa) of Nashua and Shawn Everett of Nashua.

Danny is survived by his wife Maria; mother Dorothy; his three sons; his grandchildren: Brittany, Marissa, Kyle, Kristian, Mercedes, Logan and Ava; his great-grandchild, Jesse; a brother, Richard "Dick" Janssen; a sister, Linda (Morris) Dolph; step-mother, Marlene Janssen; mother-in-law, Mary Leslie; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Janssen and his grandparents.

Danny worked for Marigold Dairy in Charles City until he and Maria moved to Missouri. The short while they were in Missouri, he worked at Banquet Foods. When the family moved back to Iowa, he went to work at Kitchens of Sara Lee in New Hampton until the plant closure.

During this time, he and his family also ran a dairy farm in rural Nashua. Farming was in Danny's blood. He took great satisfaction in tilling the soil and seeing the fruits of his labor. Danny enjoyed stock car racing, tractors and was a lover of all animals (especially his dog Ellie). He was great at training horses. He and Maria spent many hours and miles trail riding all over Iowa, Missouri, South Dakota, Wyoming and anywhere they could ride, camp and have a good time with their friends and family.

Danny also took pleasure in taking the boys boating when they were younger and then going boating with them when they became adults. Danny and Maria went on cruises, motor cycle trips and horseback riding trips with their good friends Chuck and Ginny Olsen.

Danny was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He would take the grandkids sledding and he and Maria took them on many trail rides. Danny was the happiest when he was spending time with his family and friends.
