Obituary: Mrs. Schmidt
Mathilda Wilhelmina (Mechelke, Daake) Schmidt was born November 28, 1856, at Brandenburg, prussia, Germany, and in early infancy was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran church there. She was brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord by her parents and on palm Sunday, 1871, she was confirmed.
Her childhood days were spent in Brandenburg, Prussia, where she attended parochial school. On the 8th day of May, 1881, she entered the holy state of matrimony with Frederick Daake. This union was blessed with six children: Carl, of Riverdale, Nebraska; Paul of New Hampton, Iowa; Hermann of Rochester, Indiana; Rudolph of Rockford and Frank of Waterloo, Iowa. Another child, Wilhelm, died in infancy.
Besides, there remain to mourn her departure, an older step-son, Frederick Daake of Kearney, Nebraska, twelve grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. Her husband Frederick Daake, preceded her in death, having passed away in 1913. She lived in Rockford up to 1923 at which time she was married to William Schmidt of Charles City. There she made her home up to the time of her demise, Monday (April 2). She lived to the age of 77 years, 4 months and 4 days. Mr. Schmidt preceded her in death in 1931.
The deceased had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Rockford up to the time when she moved to Charles City. She was regular in church attendance and devoted to her church. She was a loving mother and her loss will be keenly felt by her survivors.
The funeral was held this Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lutheran Church, being conducted by Rev. Buehler, and interment was made in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, next to Frederick Daake, the father of her children.
