Woodbury, Nancy (Richardson)
WOODBURY: At her home in this city, Tuesday, December 29, 1896, Mrs. Nancy Woodbury, aged 85 years, 11 months.
Nancy Richardson was born in Manchester, VT. January 29, 1811, where seventeen years later she was united in marriage to John Woodbury, December 26, 1827. She removed with her husband to Castile, New York, in 1832; from there thence to Iowa in the fall of 1864, where they settled in this place and where Mr. Woodbury died August 16. 1881.
Mrs. Woodbury may be accounted one of the old settlers, for during her residence of over thirty years here she has seen the village expand into the city and the population of a few hundred multiply to thousands. Since her husband's death she has resided in the old home, corner Blunt and Harwood Streets, with her daughter and grandchild, Mrs. Emma Austin and daughter. Her last illness was of short duration, though for a number of years he had been in poor health.
She leaves three children, two sons and one daughter, Andrew Woodbury and Mrs. Emma Austin of this city, and Charles Woodbury of Montana. She lived a very quiet and retired life, but filled to the brim with loving service to her family and those who came within the radius of her home life. The funeral took place at her late home Thursday, the last day of the year, the services being conducted by Rev. C. C. Otis, of the Congregational Church, of which church deceased was a consistent and devoted member.
