Carol J. Maschek, 70, of Charles City, died on Wednesday Sept. 11, 2013, at Muse Hospice in Mason City. A funeral service will be on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m. Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street Charles City. Reverend Paul Phillips, from the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Friday Sept. 13, from 5-8 p.m. also at Fullerton-HageFuneral Home.
Carol lived in Charles City all of her life, She married Edmund Maschek on June 14, 1959 in Nashua. From this union two children were born. Carol had been an employee of Charles City School District for 23 years as a custodian where she impacted many lives.
Carol had been a past volunteer at Re-Runs in Charles City; she really enjoyed the people she got to work with there. Her friends there always said Carol would root for the underdog. Carol loved to shop and bake, especially cookies, she always wanted to make sure her family and friends had cookies. On Sunday afternoons Carol along with her sisters and good friends would get together for coffee, to visit. Family was the most important thing to Carol.
Those left to cherish Carol’s memory are her husband of 54 years Edmund, daughters Lori (Tim) Shinkle of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Tami (Marino) Wabaunasee of Tama, Iowa; her sisters: Debby (Bernard) Steinberg of Charles City, Bonnie (Stan) Teepe of Charles City, Sandy (Mark) Kuykendall of Floyd, Sharon Taylor of Charles City, Janene (Wayne) Miller of Plainfield, Gloria (Larry) Rover of Independence, Missouri; her brother, Dennis (Donna) LaBounty of Pegram, Tennessee; a special sister-in-law, Delores Dostart of Cave Springs, Georgia; also, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Elaine Dostart, and her brothers Larry Frieberg and Gary Dostart.
