Jacob (Jake) Rudolph Kummer, 82, of Charles City died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.

Grave side funeral services were held with military honors at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, at Highland Cemetery Monticello, Wisconsin, with Rev. Mary Gafner officiating.

Jacob R. Kummer was born March 8, 1931, to his parent's Jacob and Martha (Hess) Kummer. He graduated from New Glarus High School in Wisconsin then joined the United States Army in 1949 during the occupation of Japan and the Korean conflict. After his military service he returned to Monticello and obtained work running a milk route, then later owned and operated a bar. Jake later moved to California to work with his brother-in-law then moved to Charles City in 1961. He owned and operated the Texaco station for several years before selling the business.

In 1963 Jake was united in marriage to Janice Carol Taft. Jake then worked for Dale Vanderlan until 1972 when he became self-employed as a mechanic and farmer. In the 1980s, Jake managed the shipping of White Farm tractors for Diamond Transportation until White Farm closed. Jake enjoyed playing cards, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Living family members include his four children Rhonda (Phil) Neely, Bluffton, S.C., Jacob (Lori) Kummer, Charles City, Carla Kummer, Charles City, Teresa Kummer, Charles City, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers William (Kay)Kummer, New Glarus, Wisconsin, Jim Kummer, two sisters, Jeanie (Bruce) Pope, Racin, Wisconsin, Martha (Harvey) Jenkins, Racin, Wisconsin, numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was proceeded in death by parents and sisters Sylvia Kummer and Ruth (Kummer) Meyers.

The family invites friends to a celebration of life on Aug. 3, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at the VFW, 1505 N. Grand Ave. Charles City. Memorials can be sent to Jacob Kummer, 1410 Clark St., Charles City, IA 50616.
