Bess Maybelle Hoyer, 51, wife of Dr. John W. Hoyer, passed away at 12:45 o'clock Sunday morning at her home, 314½ Main Street. She had suffered with chronic heart disease for a number of years but her final illness was of only two weeks' duration.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Cameron, Bess Maybelle was born January 1, 1885 on a farm near Independence. The family moved to town where Bess attended the Independence public schools, and then grew to womanhood at Vinton where the Camerons later moved. On March 30, 1910, she was united in marriage to John W.. Hoyer and a home was established at Vinton.
In the years that followed, several different localities were their home as Mr. Hoyer's employment called him from one place to another. In 1925 both Mr. and Mrs. Hoyer graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractic, and began the practice of their profession in December, 1926, at Charles City which has since been their home and where they worked together.
Mrs. Hoyer was an active member and a past chief of the Pythian Sisters order and a member of O. E. S. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and an active worker as long as her health permitted. She found time for much charitable work.
Surviving besides her husband are three brothers: Frank L. Cameron, Portland, Oregon; Will F. Cameron, Bismark, North Dakota, and Ray A. Cameron, Vinton, Iowa. Two years tomorrow Mrs. Hoyer's mother passed away at the advanced age of 92 years, and four brothers preceded her in death in the last five years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Grossmann Funeral Home, Dr. J. M. Walters officiating. Interment will be made at Littleton, Iowa, near the farm where Mrs. Hoyer was born.
