Nora Springs, Iowa — Kay Y. Elsbury, 75, of Nora Springs died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Per Kay’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, at the Nora Springs United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs.

Per Kay’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 28, at the Nora Springs United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye Ave, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Jerry Avise-Rouse and Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 27, at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Kay Elsbury Memorial Fund in care of her family.

Kay Yvonne Elsbury, daughter of Clair and Florence (Prehn) Walker, was born April 17, 1938, in Rochester, Minnesota. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1955 before attending beauty school in Mason City. Kay owned and operated Kay’s Clip and Curl in Nora Springs for more than 30 years and worked at the Nora Springs Care Center for 10 years doing hair.

Kay was united in marriage to James E. Elsbury on September 11, 1976, at the Nora Springs United Methodist Church. They lived in Nora Springs for the past 30 years.

In Kay’s earlier years she enjoyed sewing and cross-stitching and later began collecting dolls and loved watching the birds. Kay always had a good time and conversation with everyone she knew. She loved playing both indoor and outdoor games, dancing and an occasional ride on the motorcycle.

She was an active member in the Nora Springs United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Elsbury, Nora Springs; children, Cindy Harris, Kimberling City, Missouri, Kevin (Holly) Engels, Milliken, Colorado, Kirk Engels, Fort Collins, Colorado, and Kelly (Scott Knutson) Engels, Mason City; grandchildren, Chad and Cody Harris, Kendra (Matt) Blatner, Kiersten Engels, Matt (Kristen) Engels, Ryan (Marianne) Engels, and Trevor (Carly) Engels, Mariah and Kayden Knutson, Stephanie Krueger, and Dana (Ben) Burns; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Brianna, Peyton, Julia, Nathan, Tyler, Benjamin, Grady, Daniel and Jackson; brothers, Darrel (Wanda) Walker, Nora Springs, and Orrin Dean Walker, Rockford; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and son-in-law, Dan Harris.
