I.V. Hodgin, 85, Died at West Union
Deceased Came to Greene In Covered Wagon Over Fifty Years Ago
Funeral services were held in Mason City Wednesday afternoon for Isaac Vernon Hodgin, 85, who died January 25 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lester Larson, at West Union following a short illness. Mr. Hodgin was engaged in the dairy business in Greene several years ago.Following the death of his wife in 1941 he had made his home with his two sons and daughter, and had been at the Larson home since May 1947. Burial was in the Rudd cemetery.
Mr. Hodgin was born May 8, 1862, on a farm near Cedar Rapids, the son of Elisha and Elizabeth Hodgin. The family lived in Yankton, South Dakota for 10 years. On December 5, 1886, he married Ella E. Shearer and in 1894 they, with one child, moved in a covered wagon to a farm near Greene.
He was in the dairy business here for several years, and in 1927 the family moved to Rudd, where he owned and operated a feed mill until 1941. He united with the Church of the Brethren at Greene and maintained his membership there.
He is survived by two sons, Luther of Mason City and Evert of Caldender; three daughters, Mrs. Julia Shatzer of Pasadena, California, Libbie of Parkston, South Dakota, and Valentine, Mrs. Lester Larson of West Union. Also one half-sister, Mrs. Hattie Miller of Pasadena, California; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Hattie Fisher, and two brothers preceded him in death.
