Charles City — Lorraine M. Hayden, 91, of Charles City, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Lorraine at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 24, at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma, with Father Steve Garner celebrating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at Elma.

Visitation will be held on Sunday June 23, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma, with a 5:30 p.m. Scriptural Wake Service.

Visitation will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral mass on Monday.

Online condolences may be left for Lorraine’s family at www.conway-markhamfh.com .

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Lorraine M. Hayden, age 91, of Charles City passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Lorraine was born on March 23, 1922, to James and Loretta (Conway) Stapleton in Nashua. As a young child, Lorraine moved with her family to Elma where she grew up and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1940. She worked at the Elma Post Office.

Lorraine was united in marriage to Merle Hayden on June 23, 1943, in Boise, Idaho. The couple made their home in Elma and Waterloo then moved to their present home in Charles City.

Lorraine kept books for their trucking business and then kept books for Farm Fleet. She especially loved attending her children’s sporting events and spending time with her grandson, Cole. Lorraine was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City and the Charles City VFW Auxiliary.

Lorraine is survived by the couple’s children, Sandra Kostka of Springdale, Ark., Bill Hayden of Nora Springs, Larry Hayden of Charles City, and Trish (Tommy) Hayden-Brown of Wake Forest, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Jack (Kay) Hayden of Elma; one grandson, Cole Hayden of Waterloo and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle Hayden on Aug. 21, 2012; her brothers, Harold and Robert Stapleton and her sister Betty Springer.
