CHARLES CITY — Eileen Angela Burkhardt, 94, of Charles City, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane, Charles City. Father Hajek will be officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

A wake will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Scripture service followed by a rosary service on Monday, June 17, 2013, at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Eileen Burkhardt was born on April 6, 1919, in Greene, Iowa, to Thomas Anthony and Edna Rose (Addison) Hagarty. She graduated from Floyd schools.

On February 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Frank Burkhardt. To this union were born a daughter and four sons. Frank and Eileen farmed in Clarksville, Floyd and settled on a farm outside Charles City.

In December 1987, Frank and Eileen retired to their home in Charles City where she lived until the time of her death. Throughout her life, Eileen worked at the Floyd telephone office, assisted priests with meals at Memorial Hospital, Waverly, Iowa, and was also employed at a canning factory in Waverly.

The occupation she held the longest was that of farm family homemaker. As a grandmother, Eileen loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Eileen was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church and of St. Catherine’s Circle and was a member of the General Guild. Eileen volunteered many years at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. Eileen will be missed by all of those who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Mike (Jean) Burkhardt of Mankato, Minn., Dan (Julie) Burkhardt of Minnetrista, Minn., Jim (Carol) Burkhardt of Allison, Iowa, David (Diane) Burkhardt of Charles City, and Elaine (Bruce) Oimoen of Clear Lake; sister, Kathleen Lambert of Waterloo, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; caregivers, Sharon Bonwell, Jan Lovik, Lori Hoisington, Cassie Hoisington, Katie Eggers, Samantha Tabbert, Coleen Berhow, Jeri Sweet, Diane Bilharz, Jacque Hennick, and many more.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Jim, Burr, Louis and Leland Hagarty; sisters, Esther Smith, Leone Burkhardt, Agnes Harrington-Gaffney, Ruth Huffman, Ardith Ochs and Rita Rivers; and grandchild, Brian Burkhardt.
