Darlene Steil, 74, of Charles City, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at her home.

Funeral services for Darlene Steil will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Chaplain Dave Byrd from Iowa Hospice will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, and at the church an hour prior to the service.

Darlene Joyce Sturges Steil was born November 8, 1938 in Rockwell, the daughter of Ludd and Stella (Ziegler) Sturges. She graduated from Rockwell High School, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a teaching degree. On November 22, 1959 she was united in marriage to Alan Steil at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Darlene taught elementary school at Nashua and Marble Rock, worked alongside Alan on the farm, and was an associate at Kmart for twenty seven years.

She was a member of the Wildwood Golf Course, Wildwood Women's Golf League, and Women's Bowling League at the Comet Bowl. Darlene loved to be outdoors having fun snowmobiling, motorcycling, horseback riding, and golfing. She was a very passionate Minnesota Vikings fan. She will be remembered for her love of life, her laugh, but above all her love for her family.

Left to celebrate Darlene's life include her husband Alan Steil of Charles City, sons Al (Michelle) Steil of Cedar Rapids, and Jason (Kelli) Steil of New Sharon; grandchildren, Ashleigh Rae Steil, Alan "Blake" Steil, Shayla Dawn Francis, Jaydyn Wayne Steil, and Alyxandrea Lyn Steil; great grandchild Julian James Van Wyk; a brother Don Sturges, of Florida; very special niece Julie (Dan) Doxtad of Galva; and several other nieces, nephews, and great nieces.

Darlene was preceded in death by her son James "Jimmy" Dean Steil; her parents, a sister Elaine Thompson, and a brother Ralph Sturges.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the following people and organizations: Ronnie and Marlene Lauber, Jean and Mark Wadington for helping the family when they needed it the most, and Renee's Loving Care of Osage and Iowa Hospice, New Hampton for the great care they gave to Darlene.

Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice of New Hampton or Renee's Loving Care of Osage.
