MILITARY RITES PLANNED FOR WILLIAM C. HUNDT

Charles City – Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Hauser Funeral Home for William C. Hundt 70. He died Thursday at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, near Charles City, with military honors by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Born September 13, 1890, in Charles City, he was the son of Michael and Mathilda (Reetz) Hundt. He was married to Sarah Haley, November 28, 1927, in Waterloo.

A retired Oliver Corporation employee, he had been in failing health for the past year, since having a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been a resident of Charles City since 1938 and was a member of the American Legion. He served in World War I.

He is survived by a son, Joe Hundt, Charles City, a sister; Mrs. Glen Haley and a brother, Fred Hundt, both of Waterloo. His wife, one daughter and two brothers preceded him in death.

The son Joe (Joseph) mentioned in the obit was born to William Roy Jordan and Daisy Sarah Louise (Haley) Jordan. His dad died in 1920 and his mother married William Carl Hundt on November 28, 1927.

Joseph must have been adopted by William Hundt or used his last name. His SS death record lists him as Hundt. The 1930 Census shows him with the last name Jordan, and the 1940 Census shows him as Hundt.

Daisy Sarah Louise (Haley) Jordan Hundt died August 25, 1945 and was buried in the Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Her tombstone has Daisy Jordan on it. She was the daughter of George Erastus Haley and Elizabeth (McQuaide) Haley.
