Geraldine Mary "Gerry" Childs

Geraldine "Gerry" Mary Childs, 79, of Charles City passed away on April 3, 2013, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital. Online condolences may be left at www.fullertonfh.com.

Gerry Childs was born on February 17, 1934, to Arnold and Anne (Benson) Schilling in Minneapolis, Minn. She grew up in the New Hampton area, where her father opened his own greenhouse. Gerry graduated from New Hampton High School. On Nov. 15, 1952, she was united in marriage to Howard "Keith" Childs. To this union, three children were born. Together they raised their family and lived on a farm outside of Charles City. Gerry spent most of her life as a housewife.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Charles City Writers Club. Gerry was an avid reader and liked listening to Johnny Cash. She also enjoyed collecting teapots and gardening. Gerry was an excellent cook and baker; especially when it came to her famous beef and noodles, salad dressing cake, and cinnamon rolls. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family. Gerry passed peacefully surrounded by her family after a longtime battle with complications from cancer treatments.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 60 years, Keith Childs; children, Marcy (Clair) Bean, Wade (Cindy) Childs, and Wylie (Diana) Childs; sisters, Jeanette Stolen and Joyce Hagan; grandchildren, Wayland (Darla) Bean, Derrick (Cassie) Bean, Seth Bean, Elizabeth (Jake) Schaefer, Isaac Childs, Ricardo Guzman, Oscar Guzman, Brittany Childs, Jared Childs, Brandon Childs, and Anthony Childs; great-grandchildren, Erica Bean, Sophie Guzman, Randy Johnson Jr., and baby great-grandson-to-be.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
