Ellen Jane “Jennie” (Rex) Ritter – March 30, 1879 – May 16, 1916

Marble Rock – Never has this community been so shocked as we were this Tuesday morning when word was received here from Waterloo, telling of the death of Mrs. George Ritter, who was taken to Waterloo Friday for medical treatment.

Mrs. Ritter has been in poor health for some time, but no one realized her critical condition. At 2 o’clock a.m. the message came to relatives here, telling of a serious change for the worse. As the roads are impassible for autos, it was thought best to go by the early morning train. Her husband, George Ritter and her brother Rant Rex of Greene reached her bedside as soon as possible. About 11:30 a.m. the word came that she had passed away, and that she met death bravely, as she met life.

Jennie Rex Ritter was one of our best women, a true wife and mother, a sincere Christian, a kind and helpful neighbor, and it is hard to realize that her useful life is at a close, as she was but 35 years of age.

She leaves to mourn for her, her husband, two daughters; Mrs. John (Hetta) Mooberry of Marble Rock and Myna, the dear little daughter of the home; and one son Rex; besides her mother; four brothers; and three sisters; and a host of friends, who extend to the bereaved ones their heartfelt sympathy in this greatest of all losses, a mother taken from the home.

Iowa Recorder Wednesday May 17, 1916

*Ellen Jane Rex was the daughter of Samuel Rex and Mary Jane (Ackley) Rex.
