CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Earl Simonson, 76, of Charles City died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 8, at First Baptist Church. Pastor Ruth Yeaton and Monsignor Stanley Hayek of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday where there will be prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Educational Fund, 106 Chapel Lane, Charles City, IA 50616, or First Baptist Church, 105 Chapel Lane, Charles City, IA 50616.

Earl Simonson, 76, of Charles City, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Earl Merlyn Simonson was born April 15, 1936, at Boone, the son of John and Lillie (Wahman) Simonson. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1954 and took numerous certification classes in relation to engineering. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957.

He married Sally Williams on September 21, 1957. They later divorced. On April 8, 1978 he was united in marriage to Annette Dolan Ruzek. For ten years he farmed near Stratford and for the next 40 years was a Hospital Engineer at various hospitals with 24 years at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Elks Club, Moose Lodge, Iowa Association of Hospital Engineers and a past member of Friends of Athletics. Earl enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, playing cards, model trains and his BMW motorcycle.

He was also active in the Meals on Wheels program. Family was very important to Earl and he took every opportunity to share his life with them. He especially looked forward to watching his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews as they participated in school activities.

Living family members include his wife, Annette Simonson of Charles City; nine children and their families: Kevin (Lynn) Simonson, Erik (Crystal) and Rob of Charles City; Kyle Simonson of Charles City; Brian (Sherri) Simonson, Jerid, Emily and Cory of Havre, MT; Stephen (Sherri) Ruzek, Zachary, Adrian, Ryan and Carter of Shenandoah; Anne Marie (Kevin) Vaughan, Benjamin, Nicholas and Aidan of West Des Moines; Jeffrey (Crystal) Simonson, Jeffrey and Lyla of Janesville, MN; Jennifer (Chad) Halupnick, Jadyn, Cole, Jillian and Jacie of Polk City; Kristin (Paul) Miller, Frances, John and Katherine of Batavia and Laura (Kyle) Kelly, Jackson of Ankeny; a great grandson, Chase; a brother, Dale (Inez) Simonson of Stratford; and several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Petra Simonson of Marble Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and her husband, Thelma (Forest) Hinman; and a brother and his wife, Marvin (Bonnie) Simonson.
