Bessie Speakar, 96, of Charles City, died Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Colonial Manor of Elma.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 6 p.m. Celebration of Life service at the Hauser Funeral Home. Interment will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.

Bessie Killian Speakar was born December 23, 1916, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Theodore and Millie (Sorentitch) Killian. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1936. On May 3, 1941 she was united in marriage to John Speaker in Albert Lea, Minnesota. They then moved to Charles City in 1944. Bessie worked at Jacob E. Deckers, in Mason City, and worked as a cook at the Charles City High School. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Left to celebrate Bessie's life include two daughters, Susan (Raymond) Pratt of San Antonio, Texas, and Sandra (Leland) Koenigsfeld of Union, Missouri; five grandchildren, Eric (Tina) Pratt, Tim (Dana) Koenigsfeld, Tami (Steve) Weinholt, Tari (Jim) Fink, and Ted (Cindy) Koenigsfeld; great-grandchildren, Cameron, and Samantha Pratt, Joe, and Chelsea Koenigsfeld, Brady, and Maddie Weinhold, Trey, Cooper, and Colton Fink, Lucie, and Millie Koenigsfeld; and a brother Eli Killian of Mesa Arizona.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; husband John on October 19, 1982; and a sister Ruth Carmany.
