FRANK NIKOLAS STRICKEN
"OVER THERE"

word was received Tuesday afternoon, by Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Nikolas, that their son, Frank, had answered the final summons on November 12, 1918, while in the service of his country, over in France, death coming as a result of influenza.

This news came as a shock, not only to the bereaved family, but to the entire community as well. Coming as it did so close upon the heels of the report that Roy Stroud had been killed in action, it carried with it unusual force and compels every man and every woman to realize more fully the awful realities of war. The feeling of security, and the belief that "Our Boys" are only waiting for the "muster out" in order to return to their homes, has, upon the reception of this second message, given place to uneasiness, and people are waiting, almost with bated breath, wondering what further may be expected.

However, it is hoped that no other casualties have occurred and in the very near future appropriate memorial services will be arranged.

Frank was born on October 13, 1894, near Marble Rock, Iowa, and received his education in the rural schools with two terms of High School training. He was called to the colors on February 22, 1918 when he was sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa, then after a month and a hald was transferred to Camp Sevier, Greenville, South Carolina. From Camp Sevier he was moved to Camp Mills, Long Island from which he sailed for overseas service about May 31.

A letter to his parents, dated October 14, states that he had been over the top four times. Another written October 27, contained the coupon to be pasted on his Christmas package. After doing his part in the great cause for right, he died from influenza on November 12 in the land where victory had already been won.
