OBITUARY.

Eliza M. Schermerhorn, more familiarly known to her great number of friends in and about Marble Rock as "Grandma Manchester," was born in Cooperstown, New York, December 5th, 1830, and passed on to the "Land of Life and Light" in Marble Rock, Iowa, January 9, 1918, her span of life having extended over a period of 87 years, one month and five days.

Her marriage to Dennis Manchester was solemnized December 24th, 1856, and together they came to Iowa in 1865. To them were born four children, namely: Herbert Leverne, Theron Gilbert, Mary Esther, now Mrs. Chas. T. Rex, and Clarence Dorr, still live. Other than these children she leaves surviving her one sister, Emily Thorne of Oneonta, New York, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She united with the Free Will Baptist church and continued her membership with that body until their church house in Marble Rock was burned. She then united with the Disciples of Christ.
