CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Arvin Tibbitts, 82, of Charles City, died December 17, 2012, at his home.

Funeral services for Arvin Tibbitts will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Thursday with visitation continuing Friday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Arvin Wayne Tibbitts was born January 14, 1930, at Charles City, the son of Wayne and Gladys (Allen) Tibbitts. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1947.

On August 7, 1948, he married Glenda Otto and to this union four children were born. They later divorced. Arvin married Betty Wilson on January 17, 1976. Betty died on October 26, 1996. He was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Arvin farmed near Colwell for 11 years and worked at Oliver/White Farm Corporation for 41 years. He also served on the Colwell school board, Charles City City Council for 11 years, Floyd and Mitchell County Landfill board and Area Development Agency.

Arvin also was a member of the Moose Lodge, coached Little League and started the first men's bowling league at the Comet Bowl. His interests included hunting, fishing, boating, camping, photography, genealogy and planning the next vacation. Arvin always looked forward to sharing his life with his family.

Living family members include four children: Karen Hagarty, Richard Tibbitts, Joyce (Dave) Boehmer and David (Patti) Tibbitts, all of Charles City; eight grandchildren: Lisa (Jay) Nelson, Rob (Tina) Hagarty, Scott (Amanda) Boehmer, Jamey (Jill) Boehmer, Ryan Boehmer, Brandi (Dan) Lantz, Nate Tibbitts and Kallie Tingle; three step-grandchildren, Nathan, Lydia and Callie King; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill (Janice) Tibbitts of Taylor, Wisconsin; his first wife, Glenda Link; and special friend, Dolores Hayworth of Garner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; and a brother, Jimmy Tibbitts.
