Patricia “Pat” Lockhart Rude of Hudson, Wis. (formerly of Charles City) died on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at the Christian Community Home (CCH).
The daughter of Arthur and Bessie Lockhart, Pat was born in Abington, Pa., on August 14, 1924. She graduated as valedictorian from Mt. Holly High School in 1942 and began nursing studies that June. She received her R.N. from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia in 1944. After graduation she worked as a nurse based at Fort Defiance, Arizona.
Pat married Theodore “Ted” A. Rude, Jr., VMD, her husband of nearly 61 years, on August 3, 1946, in Abington, Pennsylvania. She assisted Ted in his veterinary practice and worked as a nurse in Stoughton, Wisconsin. She moved to Charles City when Ted accepted a position at Salsbury Laboratories and later to Cedarburg, Wisconsin, when Ted became general manager of Fromm Laboratories. She volunteered as a school nurse in Charles City and in Cedarburg.
Pat and Ted moved to Hudson after Ted’s retirement. They loved their time with their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling together, especially on cruises. A talented bridge player, Pat taught her favorite game to many others. She sewed beautiful clothes for her family and friends. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charles City and United Methodist Church in Hudson.
Pat is survived by her five children: Mary (Stephen) Morse, David (Kate) Rude, Ted (Sheila) Rude III, Dan (Rose) Rude, Connie (Dale) Lundtvedt; her 10 grandchildren: Megan, Susannah, Caitlin, Alicia, Heidi, Carina, Colin, Cassandra, Ava and Connor; and her sister, Barbara (Harry) Hulmes.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Arthur; her husband, Ted; her sisters, Betty and Eileen; and her brother, Arthur.
Her family has planned a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the United Methodist Church, 1401 Laurel Ave., in Hudson. Her children invite her extended family and friends to gather during the hour prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Private interment will occur at a later date.
The family extends special thanks to the caring staff at CCH. Memorials preferred to Christian Community Home, 1320 Wisconsin St., Hudson, Wis. 54016.
