Donald was born on October 3, 1934, in Charles City, to Joe and Grace (Huffman) Wright. He was raised in the home of his step-father Ted McDonald attending school in Charles City, Iowa and graduating from High School there.
In 1953, he joined the Air Force and served our country until 1957. During his time in the Air Force he met his wife Arla in Washington State and they were married on June 15, 1956, in Ritzville, Wash. To this union were born son Donald Jr. and daughter Donette. After his time in the Air Force the family settled in Ritzville where he owned and operated Richfield Oil Co. He later worked as a school janitor where the kids really enjoyed him. Donald was an active person who loved many sports. He was a manager of a Little League team for many years and always found time for his favorite sport bowling. He was a Cub Master leader and enjoyed his time with youth to lead them in many sports and to help them develop their skills. He liked to drive and with his family they visited many places throughout the United States. He was community minded with his service as a member of the Ritzville, Wash., City Council. He was also an active member of the Eagles during his time in Washington State. He only slowed down in the last few years as his health began to decline.
