July 23, 1912 – March 7, 2007

NORTHWOOD, IOWA — Mildred Hazel (Stalheim) Kuhlmann Flugge, 94, of Northwood, died Wednesday (March 7, 2007) at the Floyd County Hospital Hospice Inpatient Unit in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S. in Northwood, with the Rev. Barbara Wills officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Conner Colonial Chapel and one hour prior to service time on Saturday.

Mildred Hazel (Stalheim) Kuhlmann Flugge was born on July 23, 1912, in rural Northwood, the daughter of Ole and Ida (Felay) Stalheim. She was baptized on Aug. 12, 1912, and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation on May 16, 1926, at the Shell Rock Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. She received her education in the Northwood Community School. She was united in marriage to Harvey Kuhlmann on Jan. 17, 1931. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1961.

Mildred taught Sunday school for eight years in the Shell Rock Lutheran Church, and also took care of elderly people for several years in their home in Worth County.
She was united in marriage to Floyd Flugge.

She enjoyed doing crafts, embroidering, baking, playing cards, and getting together with ladies groups, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood, Martha Circle and was former president of the Martha Circle, and the Rachel Circle.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kalla Jean Lodge of Charles City, Audrey (Dean) Coyle of Floyd, Elton Kuhlmann and special friend, Frances Coyle, of Manly, Arthur (Dorothy) Kuhlmann, of Clear Lake; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, Harvey Kuhlmann, Mildred was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deloris Kuhlmann; two sons, Ole Fritz Kuhlmann and LuVerne Kuhlmann; grandchildren, Barbara Kuhlmann Borchert, Patrick Coyle, Penny Sue Coyle, Debra Kuhlmann and Richard Kuhlmann; a sister, Guida Kuhlmann; a son-in-law, James Lodge; and a daughter-in-law, Dora Kuhlmann.
