Lucy Emma (Child) Beers – September 12, 1845 – September 23, 1931

Mrs. Lucy Beers died Wednesday, September 23rd, at Timber Lake, South Dakota, where she had made her home the past four years. She was brought back to Nora Springs for burial by her daughter, Mrs. Adolph Gashel of Cedar Falls. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. George Hess of Charles City. Burial was made in the Rockford Cemetery beside her husband who died twenty years ago.

Lucy Emma Child was born in Freedom, LaSalle County, Illinois, September 12, 1845. Here she grew to young womanhood, and was united in marriage to Anson A. Beers, December 21, 1866. To this union five children were born. One daughter preceded her in death 46 years ago.

With her husband and children she moved to Iowa in 1874 and located at Grundy Center and later to Nora Springs.

She joined the Methodist church when fourteen years of age, but later joined the Christian church where she kept her membership the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Beers' husband was a veteran of the Civil War, and many were the interesting stories she recalled of those days, as well as the Spanish American and World War events.

Four children are left to mourn the loss of a mother--Albert W. Beers, Harlowtown, Montana; Lewis B. Beers, Windom, Minnesota; Mrs. Carrie Gashel, Cedar Falls; and Edgar E. Beers, Minneapolis, Minnesota. There are also nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
