Lena (Scheidecker) Vetter – August 3, 1898 – February 27, 1996

Lena Vetter, 97, passed away February 27, 1996 at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City, IA. Lena was born August 3, 1898 in Butler Co., the daughter of John M. and Katharina (Vetter) Scheidecker.

Lena wrote the following regarding her childhood: "I went to church at Pleasant Hill and attended country school in Butler Co. The school had a coal stove and the desks were set for two. I wore a brown dress with white dots in it and carried my dinner pail with slices of bread and an apple in it and played pump-pump pull-away and other games. I milked cows and gathered eggs morning and evening. Mom and Dad had a big garden for our large family, we had plenty to eat. Home was a nice place when we all were together and had our feet under dad's table - it was sweet."

Lena married Emil Vetter October 3, 1918 at the Methodist Church in Charles City - they were married 65 years. They moved to Nashua in 1948 and lived just east of the fairgrounds moving to their home in Andrews St. in 1955. Emil died in 1984. Lena entered the Salsbury Baptist Home in 1990.

Lena is survived by two sisters: Frieda Benz of Charles City and Lydia Schilling of Plainfield; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Emil; her parents; 3 sisters: Mary Litterer, Katharina and Emma Schallock; 4 brothers: David, Gottfried, George and Herman
