CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Funeral services for A. S. Kiess who died Sunday were to be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Colwell Congregational Church. The Rev. Alec Russell, former pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. B.B. Hoyt will officiate. Interment will be made in Beckwith Cemetery. The body was to remain at the Hauser Funeral home here until Wednesday morning.

RETIRED FARMER DIES SUDDENLY
A.S. KIESS SUCCUMBS IN
MASON CITY HOSPITAL

Charles City, Iowa – A. S. Kiess, 77, prominent retired farmer of Colwell, died Sunday at 3 p.m. in Mercy Hospital, Mason City, where he had been a patient for 12 days. Mr. Kiess had a surgical operation 10 days ago. His death was due to a kidney complication.

The Hauser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

At the time of his death, Mr. Kiess was treasurer of the Colwell Congregational Church and had been a Sunday School treasurer. He had also been on the board of Township No. 6 school.

He is survived by his wife and one son, Earl, on the home place.

A.S. Kiess, substantial farmer and stockman of Floyd County, was born in Niles Township, November 14, 1867. Mr. Kiess was educated in the public schools of Niles Township and in his early manhood he farmed with his father, continuing thus engaged until he acquired land on his own account.

On December 14, 1900, Mr. Kiess married Emma M. Staebler, a daughter of David and Susan (Ulmer) Staebler, the former of whom was born in the state of Pennsylvania. One child was born, Earl A.

They are members of the Congregational Church. Mr. Kiess served for several years as a trustee of the church. He also served for three years as a director of the school board. Since January, 1917, he had been a member of the Board of Trustees of Niles township.
