Mary R. (Harter) Eikenberry – August 6, 1836 – April 8, 1911

Another old settler and highly respected lady, Mrs. Mary Eikenberry has answered death’s call and departed this life, April 8, 1911 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Morton, near Marble Rock.

Mrs. Eikenberry went to Marble Rock, only a few days prior to her demise to visit at the home of her daughter and apparently seemed in usual health for a lady of her years; however she was taken seriously ill and although everything was done to save her life the inevitable happened.

Mary R. Eikenberry, nee Harter, was born in Carroll County, Indiana on August 6, 1836 and died on April 8th, 1911, having lived 75 years, 8 months and two days.

She came to Butler County with her parents in 1856 and was married to Elias Eikenberry on September 17, 1857. To this union was born seven children, three girls and four boys two having died in infancy.

Ira U. Eikenberry the son passing to the great beyond at the age of twenty three years, twenty years ago at Nevada, Missouri. The husband departed this life thirteen years ago.

The surviving children are Frank Eikenberry of Marble Rock; Jacob H. Eikenberry of California; Mrs. C. C. Taylor of Green and Mrs. Fred Morton of Marble Rock.

The funeral services were conducted from the Bretheren Church at Greene on Monday by Elder W. H. Hood, being assisted by Rev. Moody of Marble Rock and Elder w. H. Pyle.
