August Ludwig Schluter – March 29, 1895 – May 16, 1964

AUGUST SCHLUTER MOURNED

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua for August L. Schluter, 69, who died suddenly late Saturday afternoon while driving a tractor on his way home from Nashua, where he had been on business.

His tractor went straight off the road several miles southwest of Nashua and into a ditch partially filled with water. He was dead when his family found him.

August’s pastor, the Rev. R. D. Ehlers, officiated at the funeral. Music was by Miss Rita Madsen, soloist and Mrs. William Demro, organist.

Burial was in Sunnyside Memory Gardens between Nashua and Charles City.
Flowers were in charge of Dorothy Welter and Beth Bahlmann. Casket bearers were Walter Vetter, Donald Bast, Fred Kehret, Elmer Luherer, Kenneth Feldman and Clarence Gersema.

August Ludwig Schluter, son of Friedrich Adolf Schluter and his wife Friederike Henrietta (nee Schroeder), was born in Heeben, Germany, on March 29, 1895. He had 6 brothers and sisters. He was baptized and confirmed in Germany.

On November 24, 1923, he and Martha Wegner were united in marriage at Heeben, Germany. Their first son, Vernon, was born in Germany.

In 1925 they moved to America and came to New Providence, Iowa, where their second son, Albert, was born. Next they moved to a farm near Eldora where their third son, Kenneth, was born. In 1945 they moved to a farm west of Nashua where they lived until his death.

In August of 1944, on the 20th day, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Nashua.

He died on Saturday, May 16, 1964 having reached the age of 69 years, 1 month and 17 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing his widow; 3 sons; Vernon of Rockford; Albert of Nashua; and Kenneth of Bowen, Illinois; one brother; William of Germany; 12 grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
