Charles City, Iowa - Dorothy Coacher, 96, of Charles City, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Private family services will be held. Pastor Jim Beranek of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Dorothy Coacher, 96, of Charles City, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Private family services will be held. Pastor Jim Beranek of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Dorothy Ann Chapler Coacher was born July 1, 1916 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Colburn and Ann (Nitz) Chapler. She graduated from Charles City High School, and the Iowa State Teachers College currently named the University of Northern Iowa. On February 15, 1941 she was united into marriage to Kenneth "Kenny" Coacher at Northwood. Dorothy taught at Charles City Middle School for many years. She received the Governor's award for 20 years of volunteering in education. She believed in the values of family, home, and community. Dorothy was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Charles City, PEO, and the ADK. She enjoyed volunteering, reading, visiting others, and Iowa Hawkeye Sports.

Living family members include her daughter, Barbara Thorsen of Maple Grove, Minn.; sister Beth McCabe of Fort Dodge; three nieces, Beverly (James) Conklin of Plainfield, Jeanne (Hugo) Meisser of Sun City, Ariz. and Dianne Krebs of Fort Dodge; and a nephew, Dennis McCabe of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Mary Coacher. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Excellence in Education, the T.L.C., Charles City YMCA, or Trinity United Methodist Church of Charles City.
