Emma (Gutzler) Smyth – October 25, 1858 – October 26, 1931

MRS. SMYTH SERVICES HELD AT ROCKFORD; 4 SONS, DAUGHTERS LEFT

Rockford, Oct. 29 – Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Smyth, for many years a resident here and whose death occurred at West Newton, Mass., Monday were held yesterday afternoon at the Methodist Church in charge of the Rev. Charles E. Luce.

Mrs. Smyth was born October 25, 1858, and was married at Mount Vernon March 19, 1884, to William Smyth. They lived at Montrose, Colorado, and Ashton, Iowa, until coming to Rockford in 1890 where she lived until Mr. Smyth’s death October 28, 1919.

The deceased was a member of the M.E. Church from childhood and she also was a charter member of Chapter e. D. P. E. O. Fidelity Chapter Order of Eastern Star and of the Rockford Women’s Club. Following Mr. Smyth’s death, she went to make her home with her daughters.

She is survived by her two sons and two daughters; Vernon, Janesville, Wisconsin; Leonard, Glen ridge, New Jersey; Mrs. William P. Helms of West Newton, Mass.; and Mrs. Raymond Winkler of Denver; and one sister; Mrs. G. W. Patterson of Tallulah.
