FLUGEL RITES TO BE THURSDAY
DATE IS TENTATIVE; AWAITING RELATIVES

Charles City – Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl May Fluegel, 55, wife of Dr. A. B. Fluegel, of Charles City, and a past worthy grand matron of the Eastern Star of Iowa, were tentatively set for Thursday afternoon. She died Sunday evening.

Mrs. Fluegel’s outstanding project during her term as worthy grand matron, was the raising of an Eastern Star war service fund of more than $65,000, from which 16 ambulances, fully equipped, were presented to the United States Army, 10 of them in Charles City, July 4, 1943. In addition, Carillon chimes, a sound motion picture projector and screen were donated to the Schick hospital at Clinton. A music room was furnished at Camp Dodge and many other donations were made to various veterans hospitals in Iowa.

Mrs. Fluegel was born Pearl May Lemmon, at Beatrice, Nebraska, May 27, 1888, and June 24, 1908, she was married to Dr. A. B. Fluegel of Davenport.
One son was born, Lt. Virgil B. Fluegel, now serving with the armed forced somewhere in the South Pacific. Her husband also survives.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church, where services will no doubt be held, and served as a deaconess for 6 years, and was chairman of the world service department for 2 years. She was a group leader for 3 years and held other appointments for many years.

She was active in Parent Teachers association work and helped organize the first junior-senior high school Parent Teacher’s Association of Iowa, in connection with the junior-senior high school of Charles City. She, like her husband, was a graduate of the Palmer School of Chiropractic and an X-ray technician. She was past worthy matron of Excelsior Chapter, Eastern Star, past mother advisor of the Order of Rainbow for Girls and past worthy high priestess of Bethsaida Shrine No. 33, Order White Shrine of Jerusalem.
