GIRLS DIES OF A BROKEN HEART

THE SAD ENDING OF A
CHARLES CITY ROMANCE

CHARLES CITY- July 17 - The death of Lena Knechtges, which occurred here last night, ended a romance which has interested Charles City people for eighteen months. Miss Knechtges, one of the most popular girls in the younger society set of Charles City, became engaged to Richard Blunt, a wealthy young farmer soon after the young man came into his patrimony.

After the announcement of their engagement in February, 1902, Mr. Blunt started for Chicago to sell stock and was instantly killed in a head-on collision near Apple River, Illinois.

Miss Knechtges was postrated by the death of her lover and her health failed rapidly. In a few months her friends were forced to the belief that her mind was affected and she was removed to the Independence Hospital for treatment and care, which failed to benefit her. A few weeks ago she was brought back home to die, as her trouble was nothing more than a case of incurable melancholia.
