Alvin John Christiansen, 87, of rural Nora Springs, Iowa, died on Saturday, July 20, 1991 at the Nora Springs Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held on Monday at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage, with Rev. R. Hoppenworth officiating. Burial was in the Rock Creek Cemetery.

Alvin John Christiansen was born on a farm south of Rock Falls on December 12, 1903, a son of Hans and Augusta (Wohlert) Christiansen. As a child he moved with his family to a farm northeast of Nora Springs and while living there, attended Cedar No. 4 country school. He later attended the Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage, and Osage High School. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs.

On June 14, 1929, he married Ina Field at Rock Creek Lutheran Church.. They adopted two children, Gene Richard and Ruth Ann. He farmed until retiring in 1972. He was part of the Field and Christiansen partnership. In 1955, he was chosen an Iowa Master Farmer. He was past president of Mitchell County Farm Bureau, served on the Mitchell County Fair Board, was a county supervisor and for many years served as a 4-H leader. In 1976 he was inducted into the Iowa Coaches Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, Ina, of Nora Springs; and five brothers: Carl Christiansen, Nora Springs, Glen and John Christiansen, both of Osage, Lawrence Christiansen, St. Ansgar, and Herbert Christiansen, Stacyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gene, during 1962; one daughter, Ruth Ann Amundson, during 1978; and one granddaughter, Shelley Amundson, during 1982.
