GEORGE BURNS, 74, SUCCUMBS
FUNERAL WEDNESDAY AT I. C. CHURCH PIONEER OF VICINITYCharles City – Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at Immaculate Conception Church for George Burns, 74, who died at Cedar Valley Hospital early Monday morning following an illness. The Rev. Thomas Rooney will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Burns was once a farmer at Floyd Crossing. Later he and his brother, James, operated the Burns Brothers Grocery Store in Charles City. After operating the store for approximately 25 years, Mr. Burns accepted a governmental appointment in Washington, D. C., but retired from that position about a year ago because of ill health.
Surviving are two sons; Owen of Marble Rock; and John of Charles City; a brother; James, Charles City; and two sisters; Mrs. R. E. Wade and Mrs. Agnes Brouillard of Charles City.
