A CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES NEAR THE CITY

Michael Schneider, a veteran of the civil war, died this morning at his farm home, four miles north of Charles City at six o'clock at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 21 days. He was a native of Germany, emigrating with his parents when he was eight years of age. He was in the service of his country for three years from 1862 to 1865. He has lived continuously on the farm north of the city for 53 years where his son, John A. Schneider now operates the farm.

Deceased was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and the Odd Fellows Lodge. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian church with the Rev. G. A. Hess officiating with interment in Riverside Cemetery. The body is at the Hauser Funeral Home.

Michael Schneider was born in Germany, May 19, 1839 and died at his home near Charles City, Iowa Wednesday morning December 10, 1930, aged 91 years, 6 months and 21 days.

He was the youngest son in a family of five sons and one daughter that came to America in 1848 he being at that time eight years of age.

In 1862 at the age of 23, he enlisted in Company B, First Wisconsin Heavy Artillery service until the close of the war when he was mustered out of the army with an honorable discharge after three years of most faithful service. For some time after his arrival home from the war he was an invalid but finally regained his health after which he went to Illinois where he worked at the carpenter's trade and it was while there that he met Miss Mina Bangen to whom he was married, December 15, 1869, and to this union the following children were born, John and Henry and Mrs. William Goodale and Mrs. Magdalena Wright. The later having departed this life November 20, 1925. His wife and the mother of the above named children passed away March 7, 1921.

He came to Floyd County, Iowa in 1877 purchasing the farm where he has spent the past 53 years, this home being four miles north of Charles City, Iowa. He affiliated with the Grand Army of the Republic in 1871 and became a member of National Lodge No. 165 I.O.O.F. at Charles City, Iowa in 1890.

He has lived an honest, useful and busy life and was ever a loving husband, a kind and indulgent father and a most highly respected citizen, who will be sadly missed by a host of friends who join with the family in their sorrow.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church at Charles City, Iowa, Friday afternoon, December 12 at 2:00 o'clock conducted by the pastor, the Rev. G.A. Hess with interment in Riverside Cemetery.
