Eleanor Marian Tatum, daughter of Henri and Clara Hansen Johnsen, was born July 8, 1913, in rural Mason City on the family farm. She attended and graduated from Mason City High School and furthered her education at Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She was united in marriage to Hoyt A. Tatum at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on Aug. 4, 1955.

Eleanor was an avid artist, pursuing her hobby and turning it into a business. She opened a painting school and art supply shop to share her passion by giving painting lessons. Her family and many others have enjoyed admiring her work, decorating their walls.

One of Eleanor's passions included knitting for many hours, making thousands of newborn hats. They were donated so that every baby went home from the hospital with a warm head. She also crocheted many lap and baby blankets for the hospital.

Hoyt was a pilot and owned his own airplane so he and Eleanor could travel. Together they visited North and South America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, and her favorite was their many trips to Alaska.

Eleanor loved her husband and her family. She loved her dog, Sunny. She loved to live life and Eleanor loved the Lord.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star and the Nora Springs Garden Club.

She will be missed by her husband of 57 years, Hoyt Tatum; daughters, Gayle and Rickford Schumann and Barbara Connor; sister, Mildred Peters; grandchildren, Erik Myli, Janelle Ekstrom, John Russell, June Palmer, and James Russell; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Donald and Kenneth, and her sister, Mary Francis.
