CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Laura M. Ortman, 91, formerly of Charles City, died Monday, July 30, 2012, in Denver, Colorado.

Graveside services will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City, at 1 p.m. Saturday October 6, 2012. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate.

There will be a victory celebration at the home of Kim and Kalen Schlader, 2986 Chestnut Place, Charles City, following the graveside services.

Memorials may be made out to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church or the American Parkinson's Foundation. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.Fullertonfh.com .

Laura Maulsby, was born December 20, 1920 in Floyd County, the daughter of Clifford Maulsby and Lida (Wiener) Maulsby. She married Robert Herman Ortman, the son of Frederick Ortman and Alma (Geuder) Ortman.

Laura M. Ortman was born in Geneva, Iowa, on December 21, 1920, to Clifford and Lida (Weiner) Maulsby. She grew up in Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School in 1938. She later graduated from the La James Beauty College in Mason City. She married Robert Ortman on October 11, 1941, in Charles City.

In 1953 they moved to Decatur, Georgia, where she was employed for many years by the DeKalb County Department of Human Services. The family returned to Charles City in 1988. She moved to Colorado following the death of her husband in 2002.

Laura was a longtime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She volunteered in a number of capacities thru the years including Pink Lady and the F.C.M.H. auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing clothes and making flower girl dresses for many. She also enjoyed reading with mysteries, historical writings and novels among her favorites.

Laura is survived by her children: Kay (Terry) Lutts, of Denver, Colorado, and Kent (Rada) Ortman, of Gulf Breeze, Florida; grandchildren: Laura Lee Ault and Ashley Lutts, of Denver, Colorado, Judi Locke and Robert Ortman, of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Lucille McKenzie, Ann Britt and Pearl Fredericks; and a brother, Clifford Maulsby. Fullerton Hage Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, (641) 228-4211, www.fullertonfh.com, is in charge of the arrangements.
