David Allen Schmidt, 56, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, of cancer.

He was born July 17, 1950, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Vern and Edith (Rodman) Schmidt. He married Kathleen Faith Truax on June 21, 1975, in Waterloo. He graduated from Clarksville High School and received his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Northern Iowa. He was employed as an income maintenance worker with the Department of Human Services.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Nathan David (Chelsie Knudsvig) Schmidt, of Waterloo; and a daughter, Bethany Anne (John) Ardente, of Cary, Illinois; his mother of Clarksville; and a brother Daryl (Betty) Schmidt, of Allison.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Duane.

Dave was a people person. He loved to connect with people and took time to hear their stories and ask insightful questions. He was very involved in his church. He enjoyed nature in many ways - walks in the woods, bike rides and watching sunrises and sunsets on the lake.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Cedar Valley Community Church, 3520 Ansborough Ave., with a 1:00 p.m. graveside service in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo.
