SEAMAN RITES HELD AT CHURCH
NORA SPRINGS STORES CLOSE DURING SERVICE FOR FORMER MAYOR

Nora Springs – Funeral services for Israel Milton Seaman, 66, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Church of Christ here, conducted by the Rev. George D. Gaide. A male quartet consisting of Earl Moody, James Cutler, Clarence Stoner and Fred Frudden sang. Mrs. Earl Moody accompanied. Burial was in Park Cemetery.

Mr. Seaman was born at Parkersburg, June 11, 1869. In 1883 he moved with his family to the western part of the state where he grew to manhood. In 1897 he was married to Lillian Baskett of Mason City. Immediately following his marriage he came to Nora Springs and was actively engaged in business nearly 40 years. For 35 of these years he was in partnership with August Volkman.

In 1923 Mrs. Seaman died after a lingering illness. Six years later he was married to Mrs. Hattie Bliss.

He took an active part in the civic life of the community, serving as mayor four years. At the time of his death he was president of the local telephone company. He was a charter member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. For years he was a member of the Baptist church but last winter he transferred his membership to the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife and a son, Benjamin of Carroll; a daughter, Mrs. Bernice Reafs of Ford Dodge, a little grandson, Jerry Reafs and a sister, Miss Harriet Seaman, a teacher in the Mason City schools. All business houses here were closed during the funeral.

Israel Milton Seaman was born June 11, 1869 in Parkersburg, the son of Benjamin Seaman and Lavinia (Williams).

His first wife was Lillian Baskett.

His 2nd wife was Henrietta “Hattie: (nee Just) Bliss, the widow of John R. Bliss.
