N. J. GILDNER, NORA SPRINGS, DIES AT 89

Nora Springs – Nelson John Gildner, 89, died Sunday at a Mason City hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Sheckler Funeral Home. The Rev. Amedee Fredette will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

The son of Conrad and Mary Schnarr Gildner, he was born northwest of Nora Springs, January 7, 1872. He had lived all his life within a half-mile of his birth place. He was married to Agnes Hofler, February 11, 1895. She died in 1933.

On September 8, 1939, he was married to Elizabeth Frier of Traer.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters; Mrs. Herman (Grace) Hansen, Plymouth; Mrs. Ben (Lulu) Kendrew, Mason City; two stepchildren; Grant Frier, Conrad; Mrs. Elsworth (Ruby) Dart, Cedar Rapids; two sisters; Miss Mabel Gildner and Mrs. John (Lydia) Gashel, both of Nora Springs; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a daughter; Mrs. Roy (Vera) Garl; four brothers; Arthur, Albert, Fred and Conrad; two sisters; Margaret Gildner and Mrs. Edith Hanson; two half-sisters; Mrs. Herman (Anna) Howe; and Mrs. Henry (Nettie) Brodrecht; and a half-brother; Henry Gildner.

Nelson John Gildner’s first wife was Agnes Hofler, the daughter of Anton Hofler and Eva (Bauer) Hofler.

His 2nd wife was Elizabeth Clemann, the daughter of John Clemann and Ida (Barnhouse) Clemann. She was the widow of Christian Frier who died in 1932.
