FLOYD COUNTY PIONEER DIES
MRS. EMMA HOFMASTER, 81, BURIED IN NORA SPRINGS CEMETERY

Nora Springs, Oct. 6 – Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Hofmaster, 81, were held Saturday afternoon at the home, conducted by the Rev. Adolph Beuerman of the Evangelical church.

She was born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, September 3, 1849. She came to Rock Grove, Illinois, to live and was married there to August Hofmaster November 14, 1867.
For some years they resided at Rock Grove, Illinois, but decided to come farther west, settled near Rockwell. They came to Nora Springs in 1902.

Mrs.Hofmaster was a member of the Congregational church until it was disbanded, then united with the Evangelical church of which she was a faithful member. She had been in failing health for some time but the end came suddenly at the close of day.

She leaves two sons and four daughters; Frank Hofmaster and Fred Hofmaster, Nora Springs; Mrs. J. C. Felthous, St. Paul, Minnesota; Mrs. Anna Blatz, Lodi, California; Mrs. Will Knox, West Union; Miss Estelle Hofmaster, Nora Springs. A son Will Hofmaster died last June at Algona. She left one sister; Mrs. Louis Scheurer, Cedar Falls and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: E. E. Sherman; E. C. Moody; E. E. Chenoweth; Ernie Moore; Nel Nelson; and Lou Ostrem
Burial was in Park Cemetery.

Emma Anthony was born September 3, 1849 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of C. W. and Maria Anthony. (as per 1925 Iowa Census).

She married Augustus Hofmaster.

Apparently the last name got Americanized as her husbands’ birth record has his last name as Hofmeister, but children found so far are using the spelling Hofmaster.
