FUNERAL SET FOR LUTHERAN PASTOR

Funeral services will be held tomorrow night at 8 p.m. in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont for A. B. Swan, assistant church pastor, who died Sunday following complications of an illness contracted on a Caribbean cruise.

Ordained in 1924, the Re. Mr. Swan served congregations in Minnesota, Texas, San Francisco and Santa Monica California before moving to Hayward in 1954 where he began a mission church, St. Timothy’s. He served as pastor there until his retirement in 1962

In 1973 he became assistant pastor at Holy Trinity.
The Rev. Mr. Swan died in Eden Hospital at Castro Valley after spending time in the hospital’s cardiac unit, his Caribbean cruise cut short because of illness.

He is survived by three brothers, Bryan, Charles and Milton; and one sister, Louise Hecht.

The Rev. Mr. Swan will be interred at Nora Springs, Iowa.

Abel Bernhardt Swan was born December 29, 1891 in Perry County, Missouri, near Wittenberg, the son of Charles and Emilie (Palisch) Swan. (Missouri birth records). His mother died when he was only 8 years old.

He married Edna Ann Victoria Hof, the daughter of David Hof and Nettie (Ladwig) Hof.
